The omnipresence of black flags featuring the bowed head of an American prisoner of war, which fly in front of most public buildings throughout the United States, and the high-profile coverage of POWs in the Persian Gulf War speak volumes about the emotional hold of the POW/MIA issue in this country. Sauter and Sanders, both investigative reporters, are most assuredly not unbiased observers of the White House and Pentagon's handling of the MIAs. They offer a polemic in favor of opening the files and launching an intensive, sustained effort to locate and return those still missing and presumably held in Southeast Asia. Their book is not without flaws, but the points they make are disturbing and worthy of attention. Recommended for academic and public libraries.
