Hardcover. The Snowy Mountains were the site of the building of a large hydroelectric and water diversion project in Australia's loftiest mountain range. The author traveled to the region intending to write a report on the project, but ended up writing about the workers, many of them from Europe and elsewhere, who were dedicating their lives to the project. Contains many black-and-white photographs of the workers, their living conditions, and their work environment. Maps to front and rear endpapers and occasional maps in text block. Introduction by Professor A. P. Elkin. SCARCE, especially in the United States. Octavo. Blue cloth-covered boards with title in dark blue to spine. Illustrated dust jacket with title in white to front and spine panels. Some bumping and wear at edges of dust jacket. Pages are yellowed but clean; photographs are bright and clear. AUS/9082.
