About this Item
Mounted gelatin silver photograph. Photograph measures 6 ¼ x 8 inches; mount measures 7 ½ x 9 ¾ inches. Previous owner (modern) has written in pencil on verso; library catalog number on white sticker affixed on verso. Top right corner of mount was missing but was replaced with new material. Photo has light foxing and yellowing, and minor scratching. Overall good. This image depicts townsfolk gathering in front of the Meno Hardware and Implement Co. building. American flags are draped in front of the Meno Hardware and Implement Co. building, horse and wagons line the street and mostly men stand on the sidewalk. In the background we can see lots of rolled fencing and farm machinery. Meno was established in 1893 during the Cherokee Outlet Opening and was settled by Mennonites. It was likely named after Menno Simons, a 15th century religious leader, from which the Mennonites derive their name. Seller Inventory # 024074
