Menopause

Leading researchers and experienced clinicians join forces not only to illuminate today's understanding of the endocrinology of menopause, but also to provide a sound basis for its successful management. These seasoned experts review in detail the cardiovascular, bone, brain, and genitourinary changes that accompany menopause and spell out the risks, benefits, and alternatives of conventional hormone replacement therapy. Selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), androgen replacement, calcium supplementation, and the role of phytoestrogens are also fully reviewed. Menopause: Endocrinology and Management offers practicing physicians a comprehensive understanding of the menopause process, as well as an evidence-based approach to optimizing treatment strategies for the challenging medical problems accompanying this important period in women's lives.

"The individual chapters are, for the most part, succinct...The discussion of the various topics is complete enough to satisfy but is not enough to turn off the reader. Each chapter has enough pragmatic information to allow the novice to manage the complexities of the problems menopausal women are likely to encounter. There are chapters not usually found in other books on menopause. For residents in Obstetrics and Gynecology, primary care providers who deal with menopausal patients, and medical students interested in this topic, this is a terrific book...the chapters are readible, and there is sufficient attention to the "how to". I recommend this book to those interested in the care of the menopausal woman and who wish to know the science behind the theraputic recommendations"---Fertility and Sterility®

"...very readable and well referenced...this textbook is a useful and enjoyable text on menopause, and is generally readable, with chapters that are short and well referenced..."-Trends in Endocrinology and Metabolism

"...an excellent addition to the women's health literature. The editor's, David B. Seifer, MD and Elizabeth A. Kennard, MD have done a good job of synthesizing, organizing, and presenting a wide range of material relevant to menopause in a readable and clinically applicable fashion....Data regarding hormone replacement are well presented in an evidence-based fashion. Readers are left with the impression that they have been educated without being strong-armed into a particular clinical posture. This is perhaps the text's greatest strength....The text is well suited for immediate clinical use within the primary care setting....Given that the life expectancy of American women is reaching 80 years (meaning that women will spend nearly one third of their lives in the post-menopausal state), this text is a welcome addition to the reference library of the practicing family physician and well worth adding to your reference library."- Family Medicine
