About the Author
Né le 17 décembre 1939 à Bône (aujourd'hui Annaba), en Algérie.
Père : ouvrier agricole.
Enfance passée au Domaine viticole d'El-Kous.
Études secondaires au Lycée Saint-Augustin, à Bône.
1957-1959 : hypokhagne et khagne au Lycée Bugeaud, à Alger.Commence en même temps une licence de philosophie à la Faculté d'Alger.Puis khagne à Paris, au Lycée Henri IV.Obtient la licence de Lettres classiques à la Sorbonne, le Diplôme d'Etudes Supérieures sur Virgile et la peinture de l'amour dans l'Enéide ; puis le CAPES et l'Agrégation des Lettres classiques.
Ecrit des poèmes recueillis sous le titre de La paix naïve .
1965 : professeur au Lycée Alain, à Alençon.
1966 : fait le service militaire comme soldat-professeur à La Flèche.
Depuis 1967, professeur dans des classes préparatoires aux Grandes écoles.
Les années scolaires passent. Sera nommé professeur de chaire supérieure.
1990-91-92-93 : membre du Jury de l'Agrégation externe des Lettres modernes pour l'écrit et l'oral.
Parfois, n'était pas loin de croire que son "salut" ne viendrait que de la littérature. Des textes sont refusés. Certains sont pris et publiés, notamment par Georges Lambrichs dans Les Cahiers du Chemin, et par Jean Piel dans Critique.
* Publie au Seuil, en 1978, EL-KOUS, éthopée d'un pied-noir.
En 1982, Pascale Breugnot et Denis Chegaray le font revenir à El-Kous pour le vingtième anniversaire de l'indépendance de l'Algérie. Principal témoin dans L'Amour des cœurs, premier volet du triptyque composé pour la chaîne Antenne 2 par Denis Chegaray et Olivier Doat, et intitulé Guerre d'Algérie ― mémoire enfouie d'une génération.
