While out hunting, Arthur kills a unicorn, and Gaius warns that killing one brings a curse. Famine follows in Camelot. Uther keeps the remaining food for the nobles and orders that anyone caught stealing be executed, while Arthur blames himself for his people's hunger. With Merlin's help, Arthur seeks out Anhora, the unicorn's guardian, who sets him a series of tests of his heart. In the first, Arthur shows mercy to a thief named Evan, and in the second he must deal with the same man again. The last test takes place beyond a labyrinth on a rocky shore, where a choice of goblets means one of them must drink poison, and Merlin offers to take it in Arthur's place.
