The Merry Order Of St. Bridget: Personal Recollections Of The Use Of The Rod (1857)

The Merry Order of St. Bridget is a book written by Margaret Anson and originally published in 1857. It is a personal recollection of the author's experiences with the use of the rod, a form of corporal punishment, as a member of the Merry Order of St. Bridget. The book describes the rituals and practices of the order, which was a secret society of women who believed in the use of the rod as a means of discipline and self-improvement. The author recounts her own experiences with the rod, as well as those of other members of the order, and reflects on the role of corporal punishment in society. The book provides a unique insight into the attitudes and practices of the Victorian era, and is a fascinating read for anyone interested in the history of punishment and social norms. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
