About this Item

12mo (18.5 cm). Blue cloth boards stamped in black and gilt. 151 pp, xxii, [2]. Good only. Cloth split at both joints, not affecting binding; boards rubbed, soiled and slightly sunned. This copy from the renowned collection of Philadelphia magician, hypnotist, escape artist and bibliophile, Stanley Sokeitous, whose ubiquitous script stamp can be found throughout the book, as well as a photographic stamp to the front pastedown. On the rear pastedown is the ticket of magician, illusionist and hypnotist, Prof. Silas Wetherby Blakenbaker, and another previous owner, Sam Harris, from Los Angeles, CA. Remnants of a tipped in newspaper clipping now gone also on pastedown. A wonderful association copy for collectors of books on magic and the occult. No copies in either the trade or OCLC. Scarce. Store Description

I, the Andalusia Bookman, have a stock of over 100,000 covering a wide range of items specializing in 19th and 18th c. illustrated books, chromolithos, Philadelphiana, rare anthropology, early hermeneutics, Natural history, first editions and signed items, Beat lit, '60's material, unusual occult, erotica and esoterica. This is my personal collection from which I am de-accessing most everything, including a vast amount of ephemera, art work (steel engravings, pouchoir, collotype), movie posters (of the 1940's - 50's) and a mass of important 19th c. bound periodicals (Oology to Archeology, Mathematics, Botany, Knitting), and 20th c. Art journals, Italian Fascist publications, etc., culled from Walter J. Johnson's liquidation, as well as a collection rare jazz records, including 100's of Boogie Woogie and BeBop '78s, And much more, just ask. I was previously established as The Book Merchants, the Philadelphia's Riverside Book Fair and 30th Street Station Book Fair. In 1991 I purchased the stock of Samuel Kleinman's legendary Schuylkill Book and Curio Shop of 4207 Lancaster Ave., Phila. PA.
