The mesolimbic system is a forebrain neural pathway which utilizes dopamine as its principal neurotransmitter. This pathway has become one of the most heavily researched areas of the brain particularly in relation to its potential involvement in major psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, depression and addiction.
