Message of the Resurrection, The: Christ Is Risen! (The Bible Speaks Today)

A basic tenet of Christian faith is the fact of Jesus' bodily resurrection. But does Easter preaching inspire spiritual renewal or only rational assent? Does the fact obscure the splendor, and does the argument eclipse the new world that dawned with the resurrection of Jesus Christ? Paul Beasley-Murray aims to restore your awe and amazement at the resurrection. And as he connects the dots between a wide range of New Testament texts that offer witness to the resurrection, Beasley-Murray sketches the larger contours of God's story of creation and re-creation. The resurrection of Jesus emerges as much more than a point on which to pin apologetic arguments; rather it is the anchor and axis of God's redemptive work. Here, in all its grittiness and glory, is introduced the event that will change you and your world forever. Companions to the Bible Speaks Today commentaries, the volumes of the Bible Speaks Today Bible Themes Series highlight the message of key biblical texts in support of various facets of Christian belief. Rooted in Christian heritage and conversant with contemporary culture, this series provides a rich resource for preaching, teaching and spiritual growth.

Beasley-Murray is senior minister at a thriving Baptist church in southern England. A graduate of Cambridge University, he later earned his doctorate in New Testament studies at Manchester University. He has served as a missionary in Congo (Zaire) and as principal of Spurgeon's College in London.
