Messiah of the Orient

In the smoky, turbulent streets of ancient Baghdad and through the glowing screens of our digital age, a mystical bridge spans across centuries to tell a tale unlike any other. In the play "Messiah of the Orient," history is not merely read-it is inhaled through the eyes of Khalil and Ahoud. Driven by modern curiosity and a mysterious electronic application, they find themselves thrust back in time, standing face-to-face with the legendary Sufi martyr, Al-Husayn ibn Mansur Al-Hallaj, within the walls of his prison.

This work is more than a revival of a controversial mystic's life; it is a profound mirror reflecting the disappointments of the present onto the wounds of the past. As the narrative unfolds, it poses an eternal question: Do human errors ever truly change, or are we forever prisoners of an inherited cycle of conflict? From the heart of the Abbasid era, Al-Hallaj emerges with a vision that transcends iron bars, teaching us that true freedom is not an escape from a cell, but a "sport of the soul" in its war against worldly desires.

With masterful literary flair, Rasool Darweesh weaves a philosophical drama that begins with a spark of rebellion in the dungeons of Baghdad and ends by unveiling the hidden truths of the human spirit. Here, the essence of Christ meets the spirit of Al-Hallaj, and the authority of the state clashes with the power of the word. "Messiah of the Orient" is an invitation to contemplate the core of faith, the struggle of principles, and the search for a "Messiah" who washes away the sins of the Orient with the blood of altruism and love.
