Messianc Claims in Contemporary Shi'a Islam

Belief in a promised messianic figure has been deeply embedded in the consciousness of many cultures and religions throughout history, including Abrahamic and non-Abrahamic faiths. Diverse religious texts have provided a foundation for a wide array of interpretations of messianism, attracting various groups seeking to exploit these beliefs for their own purposes.

Messianic Claims in Contemporary Shi a Islam explores the complex landscape of modern Mahdism, focusing on a notable case study: the Yamani claimant movement led by Ahmad Ismail Basri. By leveraging specific interpretations of messianism and the signs of reappearance, such movements challenge established religious doctrines and pose significant global threats.

Authored by Dr. Muhammad Hussein Rajabian, this comprehensive study utilizes qualitative methodology and intertextual analysis of religious texts to investigate the foundations and motivations behind these contemporary interpretations. The findings reveal how the manipulation of messianic beliefs leads to severe challenges, including religious tensions, social unrest, political instability, and security threats.

This book is an essential resource for scholars, students, and readers interested in Islamic eschatology, contemporary religious movements, and the socio-political implications of false messianic claims. It provides a refined understanding necessary to prevent the violence and social upheaval associated with the exploitation of Mahdism.
