A Metrical History Of England; Or, Recollections, In Rhyme Of Some. Features In Our National Chronology" by Thomas John Dibdin is a verse chronicle of English history presented in two volumes, recounting notable events and figures across the nations past from Julius Caesar to the Regency. Dibdin organizes material by reigns, providing summaries, principal events, and lists of eminent persons and contemporary sovereigns. The work blends narrative verse with historical detail, inserting ballads, dialogues, and "Poetry of the Times" to illustrate political, religious, and cultural currents. It surveys dynastic changes—Yorkist, Tudor, Stuart, and Hanover—while offering biographical sketches and editorial commentary. Alongside the main narratives sit chronological tables and annotations that anchor the reader in a broad national chronology. The piece is a hybrid of literary celebration and historical survey, providing a panoramic, poetically rendered panorama of Englands national history and its cultural milieu.
