Antwerpen 1901 - Parijs 1999, Michel Seuphor (pseudoniem van Fernand-Louis Berckelaers) is een van de sleutelfiguren uit de kunstscene van het interbellum. Deze intellectuele omnivoor was als dichter, essayist, kunsthistoricus en criticus de voorvechter van de abstracte kunst. Zijn veelzijdigheid is fenomenaal. Begonnen als flamingantische propagandist in Antwerpen, heeft hij zich spoedig tot een universalistische Fransschrijvende auteur ontwikkeld. Hij was een grote verdediger van de strakke neoplasticistische idealen, maar integreerde tegelijk ook speelse dadaistische elementen in zijn oeuvre. Mondriaan en Arp behoorden tot zijn dichte vriendenkring. Hij was niet alleen de historiograaf van de avant-gardistische bewegingen maar ook visionaire auteur van internationalistische en humanistische essays. Naast zijn literair oeuvre bouwde hij tevens een aanzienlijke carriere als beeldend kunstenaar uit. Het FeliXart Museum brengt een overzicht van zijn plastisch werk, dat naast tekeningen, collages en assemblages, ook uit toegepaste kunst bestaat, opnieuw onder de aandacht. Deze tentoonstelling is tot stand gekomen in samenwerking met de Indivision Berckelaers en dankzij talrijke bruiklenen in binnen- en buitenland. As a poet, essayist, art historian and critic, this intellectual omnivore was the great champion of abstract art. He was phenomenally versatile. Having started out as a Flemish radical propagandist in Antwerp, he rapidly developed into a universalist author writing in French. He was a major defender of the austere ideals of Neoplasticism, but at the same time also integrated Dadaist elements into his oeuvre. His closest friends included Mondrian and Arp. He not only wrote the history of the avant-garde movements, but was also a visionary author of internationalist and humanist essays. In addition to his literary oeuvre, he also built up a considerable career as an artist. The FeliXart Museum is refocusing attention on his visual work, which, in addition to drawings, collages and assemblages, also includes applied art. This exhibition was organised in cooperation with Indivision Berckelaers and thanks to numerous loans from Belgium and abroad. Ayant debute comme propagandiste flamingant a Anvers, il se mua assez rapidement en auteur universaliste de langue francaise. Grand defenseur des rigoureux ideaux neo-plasticiens, il n'hesita cependant pas a integrer dans son ouvre des elements ludiques dadaistes. Mondrian et Arp appartenaient au cercle de ses plus proches amis. Il ne fut pas seulement l'historiographe des mouvements avant-gardistes, mais aussi l'auteur visionnaire d'essais internationalistes et humanistes. Outre son ouvre litteraire, il developpa simultanement une carriere impressionnante d'artiste plasticien. Le FeliXart Museum attire l'attention sur un apercu de ses oeuvres plastiques qui, outre des dessins, des collages et des assemblages, comporte egalement des objets appartenant aux arts appliques.
