Michelangelo?s Drawings: The Science of Attribution

During the past century the number of drawings attributed to Michelangelo has ranged from 250 to 630, even though no new lots of drawings have been discovered. Perrig proposes a set of objective criteria for determining authenticity, examines those works that by external evidence are deemed to be by Michelangelo, and reattributes others to four of Michelangelo's entourage. Perrig's findings were originally published in Germany in a five-volume work. This summary includes 132 plates. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.
