Michigan Reports, Vol. 180: Cases Decided in the Supreme Court of Michigan From March 28 to June 1, 1914 (Classic Reprint)

This book delves into the history of U.S. Supreme Court appointments from the American Revolution into the 21st century. The author provides insights into both presidential motivations and biases shaping the ideological bent of the Court, and lays bare the manipulative tactics employed to secure confirmation for nominees. The work discusses the tension between the Court's role as a check on the other branches of government and how it has often served as an enforcer of the status quo. The author demonstrates how the shifting political landscape of the nation has influenced how presidents manipulate the court to push through their desired agendas, and conversely how the strength of the court stems from its ability to resist political pressures. This meticulous examination of the court's history reveals that Supreme Court appointments have always been inherently political, with vast long-term ramifications on the nation's justice system and society as a whole.
