The Micrographic Dictionary

A fourth edition (1883) of Volume 1 of the Micrographic Dictionary; A Guide to the Examination and Investigation of the Structure and Nature of Microscopic Objects. This is the first of two volumes, this one containing the primary text of the work and some plates (53 plates with 818 woodcuts containing figures of 2680 objects) whilst the second volume contained the majority of the plates. At the time of its publication it was seen as the definitive guide on microscopy of its time. This specific copy was specially bound for use of the Microscopical Society of Glasgow likely close to when it was printed, and has library stamps suggesting it remained there through the society merging with other.
