8vo. xvi, 22, [2], 23-98, [4], 99-311, [13] pp. With 15 engraved plates, many folding and 1 folding table. With the index. The third edition with an additional plate of the Solar Microscope, and some farther accounts of the Polype. In contemporary mottled calf, re-backed with letter-piece gilt and hand-sewn end-bands. Front paste-down with ownership signature dated 1799 and ffep with another for L. Harrison Matthews, the noted marine zoologist and Fellow of the Royal Society. Title-page has a neat pencil inscription at the foot noting that Baker was married to the daughter of Daniel Defoe [his youngest, Sophia]. He later (under the name of Henry Stonecastle) went on to start the Universal Spectator and Weekly Journal with him in 1728. In very good condition throughout. ESTC T90180.
