hardback, fifth edition, recased at some time preserving the original boards and with a new spine carefully laid in. The spine with raised bands ruled gilt, gilt title on red morocco. Corners of the boards rubbed. Some browning and spotting at front and rear, but a very good tightly bound copy, name of a previous owner at the head of the front free endpaper, the text clean and unmarked. Fifteen plates and a Table, many of which folding. xvi + 324pp. The fifth edition with an additional plate of the Solar Microscope, and some farther accounts of the Polype.
