Microsoft SNA Server Training Kit

Far from a dead protocol, IBM's Systems Networking Architecture (SNA) remains in widespread use despite its age. When it comes time to teach yourself to use Microsoft SNA Server 4, Microsoft SNA Server Training Kit will show you what you need to know effectively and efficiently. This book-and-CD-ROM boxed set delivers the knowledge you need to interface multiple platforms with SNA Server.

Connectivity takes center stage in Microsoft SNA Server Training Kit as the authors explain how to put an SNA network in place and create SNA connections among various network resources. All kinds of IBM 3270 and 5250 connections--terminals, printers, data-exchange arrangements--receive thorough coverage. The kit pays special attention to security issues and performance optimization, in terms of SNA generically and in terms of SNA Server's specific implementation of the architecture.

Microsoft SNA Server Training Kit gives attention to peer-to-peer networks as well as to hierarchical ones. You'll find detailed procedures for configuring SNA Server machines in each environment, as well as instructions for getting various services running properly in each situation. The authors explain Advanced Program-to-Program Networking (APPN) and Advanced Program-to-Program Communication (APPC) and show how to set up both in a variety of heterogeneous environments.

Suitable for people looking to pass one of Microsoft's SNA Server certification exams as well as those wanting to solve immediate real-life problems, this package backs up high-quality tutorial text with relevant, well-structured exercises. The kit includes a 120-day evaluation version of SNA Server 4 for the exercises and independent experimentation. --David Wall
