THE Midnight Bugle: The Final Call (Buffalo Solders)

The Midnight Bugle: The Final Call is the first installment in The Midnight Bugle Mysteries, a supernatural military mystery series by Robert L. Terry.

Retired Staff Sergeant Caleb Mercer is still grieving the death of his wife when an impossible letter arrives at his home. The order commands him to report to Fort Mercy, an abandoned military installation, at exactly 2350 hours. The message is signed by Private Amos Bell, a young bugler who died in 1891.

When a ghostly bugle call threatens Caleb's daughter, Evelyn, he has no choice but to investigate. At Fort Mercy, they uncover a forgotten Black cavalry detachment, sealed military records, hidden tunnels, falsified history, and eleven soldiers whose names were deliberately erased. A dangerous prisoner has learned to control the bugler's call, and every note brings him closer to freedom.

To stop the final call, Caleb must rely on his military training, confront an injustice buried for more than a century, and determine which voice belongs to an ally-and which one is issuing orders from beyond the grave.

Blending military history, family grief, suspense, mystery, and supernatural danger, The Final Call launches a continuing series in which each investigation reveals a forgotten military secret and another impossible summons.
