Assen/Maastricht; Van Gorcum & Philadelphia; Fortress Åress, 1988. (Compendia Rerum Iudaicarum ad Novum Testamentum). 24,5x16 cm. xxvi, 929, (1 blank) pp. Publisher's cloth with printed dustjacket. Foot of spine is slightly bumped. A fine copy. "The present volume gives a broad survey of the way in which this document became an authoritative collection of religious writings. It describes the careful process of the transmission of the biblical text and its stabilization. Of great importance for its transmission as well as for the history of its interpretation are the Ancient Versions: the Greek and Latin, Aramaic and Syrian translations. These are studied here in separate chapters providing a comprehensive presentation of recent scholarly debate on their uses and functions." (front flap).
