Millions of Miracles: Surviving Addictions

Millions of Miracles tells the remarkable story of the 12-Step movements and the people who have recovered from alcoholism, drug addiction and other emotional issues.

From priests, doctors, politicians, schoolteachers, sporting heroes, pop stars and business leaders to teenagers, young parents and the elderly, addiction is an illness that does not discriminate. The stories this book tells will surprise and sometimes shock. But you will also be amazed at how a simple free programme has helped millions of people to recover and lead fulfilling, happy lives.

What began in 1935 with two alcoholics talking to each other, is now a global movement helping sufferers in 175 countries with meetings and literature available in a multitude of languages and dialects. As a result, its success gave birth to many 12-Step Fellowships, ranging from people with drug, gambling, sex, hoarding, workaholism, debt, co-dependency and eating disorders to dysfunctional family problems.

This book is not only an account of how these Fellowships work, it also tells the frank and honest stories of addiction and rehabilitation from real people who are in recovery. These are the miracles. Every single one of them.

It begs the question, is the programme divinely inspired? As each recovered person’s experience is mostly the same, in 12-Step parlance it is known as the work of a Higher Power, or God as that individual understands this word.
