Revised Edition. Original publisher's maroon cloth binding with gilt lettering on spine and small gilt decoration of a hammer and chisel on front cover. Folding chart (plate) in back is missing the lower-left quarter which may have resulted in some loss of text or illustrations. Publisher's notice tipped in front. 6 1/4" x 9 1/2." 147 pages, complete (except for the missing part of aforementioned plate). Many black-and-white in-text illustrations and diagrams, complete. One tipped-in folding chart in back ("Scheme for the Optical Determination of the Common Minerals in Rock Sections"), complete except for lower-left section. Appendix and Index in back. Pages are clean and intact overall except for the damaged plate or chart in back, light age toning, loosening along gutters, and occasional marks, stains, and smudges. Covers are intact overall but have significant dampstaining and fading on front and back, some fraying and wear at head and tail of spine, and slight wear to extremities. A Good copy. A mineralogy textbook intended for students at technical or scientific schools. Emphasis is on identifying minerals in rock sections under the microscope. Author Lea McIlvaine Luquer describes the additions made to this Revised Edition such as new tables and cuts. Chapter titles are as follows: "Introductory Optics for Optical Mineralogy," "Petrographical Microscope," "Investigation of Microscopic and Optical Characters of Minerals," "Microscopic and Optical Characters of Minerals," "Methods of Preparing Sections," and "Chemical and Mechanical Tests.".
