About the Author:
Stanley Dempsey holds a B.A. in geology and a J.D. from the University of Colorado and a PMD from Harvard Business School. In the early 1960s he negotiated the acquisition of much of the Ten Mile Mining District by Amax, Inc. He is Chairman of Royal Gold, Inc. and lives in the greater Denver area.
James E. Fell, Jr. holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Colorado and has been a professor at the University of Colorado since 1990. He received the Mining History Association’s 2004 Rodman Paul Award of distinction in the field and for service to the organization. He is the author of Ores to Metals and coauthor of Aurora: Gateway to the Rockies.
