Because of forest fires and timber being used for building, timber prices were soaring so much that a new mining process had to be found. The use of steel and masonry for the support of mine shafts and tunnels has long been practiced in Europe. This book also covers explosives and their use in mining, and the priciples of blasting ground, water drainage, compressed air, stoping and other mining processes used throughout the mining industry. Bound in maroon cloth, spine lettering gilt, corners lightly bumped, fading to spine, previous owner's name, bookseller's ticket. A very good copy.
