Synopsis
This national award winning book of two dozen short stories (each story has its own cartoon) recounts the adventures of my two chocolate Labrador retriever sisters, Belle and Chloe. The tales, most of them told by Belle, describe the dogs' fun with squirrels, ducks, cats, possums and backyard Texas cookouts, from the time they were weaned until the present. All stories are true, although slightly embellished. No animals were hurt in the writing of this book, although our neighbor's cat may have suffered a slight nervous breakdown.
The book is for readers of all ages...from classrooms to retirement communities. It was recently named the 2011 Silver Winner of the Mom's Choice Award in the field of Young Adult Books, Humor Division.
About the Author
Doyle Walker is a born and bred Texan, having grown up on a dairy farm in Central Texas. His mother and father's ancestors were true frontier pioneers, having moved to Texas from Virginia, by way of Mississippi. They helped found and settle Friendship, Texas, in the early to mid-1800's. Walker was born in 1949, the youngest of three brothers. He moved to the city...Temple, Texas...when he was in elementary school. In 1969, while in college, he married his high school sweetheart, Cathy. A few years later, upon graduation, the two moved to Plano, Texas, where he began a career in education.
