Miscellanea Antiqua Anglicana: Or, a Select Collection of Curious Tracts, Illustrative of the History, Literature, Manners, and Biography, of the English Nation: Volume 1

Miscellanea Antiqua Anglicana: Or, A Select Collection Of Curious Tracts, Illustrative Of The History, Literature, Manners, And Biography, Of The English Nation by Griffin Higgs is a curated omnibus of early modern English writings. This volume assembles a variety of rare tracts, including historical biographies, memoirs, quarrels, political reflections, and entertainments, printed across the 16th and 17th centuries and reissued in a later edition. The contents range from the Memoir and death of David Riccio, to accounts of the Christmas Prince exhibited at Oxford (1607), to moral and sociable pieces like Long Meg of Westminster, Fryer Bacon, and the Morris dances, interwoven with political disputes (Arthur Hall and Melchisedech Mallerie) and social curiosities (The Great Snow of 1614). The collection aims to illuminate English history, literature, manners, and biography through vivid narratives and dramatic extracts, offering readers a window into the culture and conflicts of early modern England. The edition reflects a 19th–/20th-century revival of interest in archaic curiosities and antiquarian miscellanies, preserving text and context for scholarly and general readers alike.
