Item description from seller

Two volumes of Matthew Prior's works, issued following his death and edited by the executor of Prior's will. ESTC No. T75984. Published in two volumes, with a separate title page to each volume but with an additional title page to volume I. With a frontispiece to 'Miscellaneous Works' (Volume II). Ex library, both volumes are in library cloth bindings, with shelf numbers gilt stamped to the spines. Lambeth public library plates to the front pastedowns. Matthew Prior was an English poet and diplomat remembered for contributing to the political newspaper, 'The Examiner'. Stylistically, Prior's poems vary and exude skill. He was full of witty turns, well-remembered allusions and his mastery of the octo-syllabic couplet. In full library cloth bindings. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear. Minor bumping to the head and tail of spines and to the extremities. Library bookplate to the front pastedowns, Lambeth Public Libraries. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with just the occasional spots. Very Good Indeed.…
