Spine has four slightly raised bands with gilt ruled decorations. Brown, blue, red and cream marbled endpapers. All page edges marbled. All cover edges have gilt hatching. Frontispiece engraved portrait of Goldsmith has tissue guard. NOT ex-library. Binding tight. Hinges NOT cracked. Corners and spine ends bumped and rubbed, with some boards exposed at some corners. Peeling at some edges. Gilt hatching and page edge marbling somewhat faded. Light to moderate foxing of pages, more so at first and last few pages, but foxing present to some extent on all pages. Name lightly written in pencil on second blank flyleaf, dated 1838 or 1848. One page is dog eared. NO highlighting or other markings. 527 pages. No dust jacket, as issued.
