About the Author

Miss Read (1913-2012) was the pseudonym of Mrs. Dora Saint, a former schoolteacher beloved for her novels of English rural life, especially those set in the fictional villages of Thrush Green and Fairacre. The first of these, Village School, was published in 1955, and Miss Read continued to write until her retirement in 1996. In the 1998, she was awarded an MBE, or Member of the Order of the British Empire, for her services to literature.

I'm selling most of my worldly possessions, including collectible books and art. They have begun to weigh me down. And, I want to travel. On the paternal side of my family, there is a run of antique and book sellers dating back to the 1960's. There were a couple of shops owned in Sheffield, England. My aunt still maintains a book inventory and shop after relocating to Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. So maybe it is in the genes. Ironically I live across the road from AbeBooks Inc. in Victoria, BC. Probably not an aide to my selling - think it only an office of data servers and IT professionals.
