The Missing Hour: Do Not Wake Them

The Missing Hour: Do Not Wake Them

Book One of The Awareness Protocol

by R. V. Zizzi

Every night at exactly 2:17 a.m., an hour disappears.

No alarms sound. No evidence remains. Most people never notice.

Paramedic Mara Quinn does.

She wakes with injuries she cannot explain, memory gaps that do not behave like sleep, and the growing certainty that something has been using her while she is gone. When patients begin appearing with the same fractured awareness and the same quiet warning, Mara realises the missing hour is not an accident.

It is structured.

Selective.

And learning.

As Mara begins to remain conscious during the hour, she discovers it is not empty time at all. It is a system that rewards adaptation, punishes resistance, and assumes consent without ever asking for it. Guided by a man who knows more than he should, Mara is drawn deeper into a process that forces her to confront an impossible truth.

Staying awake does not make you safe.

It makes you useful.

And once you cross a certain line, there is no way back to who you were before.

The Missing Hour: Do Not Wake Them is a slow-burn psychological thriller blending horror, suspense, and speculative fiction. Perfect for readers who enjoy unsettling concepts, morally complex characters, and stories that linger long after the final page.
