About the Author

Dr. Robert Smith? really does have a question mark in his name, so please don't send him emails about it. He is a professor of biomathematics, based at the University of Ottawa, Canada, and specialises in researching infectious diseases using mathematical models. His favourite diseases are HIV, human papillomavirus and malaria, although he also finds Rift Valley Fever enjoyably gruesome. He has pioneered the use of impulsive differential equations in disease modelling, which probably means very little to anyone reading this, but trust us - it's pretty impressive. ``Modelling Disease Ecology with Mathematics''is his first book, although he's also writing the upcoming ''Fluid Links:, a guide to Doctor Who novels for Mad Norwegian press. As you do. In his spare time, he enjoys correcting people's punctuation; then again, who doesn't?
