It explains that Renaissance self-expression was shaped by unique cultural traditions rather than modern ideas of personality and examines how writers and artists began focusing on distinct human lives and personal fame. It shows that old Renaissance forms of portraits and biographies differ greatly from modern ways of seeing ourselves. It analyzes specific self-images and works by figures like Petrarch, Boccaccio, and Cardano. The book includes a special critical text edition of Francesco Petrarch's famous autobiographical Letter to Posterity.

We started this family business in 1948. Over the years it became the largest antiquarian and second hand bookstore in Amsterdam. A five store building, two floors open for public, situated in the center of Amsterdam. During the years we became specialists on many different fields like archaeology, art and biology. A part of our collection, approx. 69.000 titles, we have listed on the internet.
