In fair condition. Front board detached. Light wear to extremities with minor scuffing to corners and edges. Spine slightly scuffed with minor chipping. Bookplate of Maurice Robert Des Marais on front end pastedown. Des Marais was a longtime faculty member in the Department of Architecture at Penn State College of Arts and Architecture and a corporate member of the American Institute of Architects. Interior lightly toned with moderate foxing. Tissue guard on frontis is soiled and toned. Some minor dampness staining to interior, does not affect text. Plate 57 is mostly missing with repairs using non-archival tape. Free of know marginalia. Binding intact. Please see photos. Edward Shaw was considered a major architectural author in the second quarter of the 19th Century and wrote many style books on both Civil architecture and home construction. There are three parts to the text with part one being a History of architecture, part two discussing different styles and the final section deals with the arrangement and construction techniques in general.
