Very large, scarce atlas. 61 double-page maps. Restored, with new boards, endpapers and binding. Some maps repaired, others with light staining. All oSmall hole on title page with minor loss of text. We have seen only one other copy of this very scarce Philadelphia edition of a popular atlas first published in London in 1808. The maps are fully hand-colored, though the color is somewhat muted on many of the maps, particularly in the front portion of the book. Nonetheless, Pinkerton's maps are crisply and cleanly engraved. Most bear an engraving credit from Neale, 332 Strand, but also bear Philadelphia imprints. Most have the credit "Published by Dobson, Phila.", but a small number have the alternate imprint, Printed by H. Charles. Published by Bradford & Inskeep, Philadelphia, Inskeep & Bradford, New York, and Moses Thomas, Philadelphia." Only 3 copies have appeared at auction since 1988. OCLC 33014363.
