This book provides a comprehensive insight into the current research trends and ongoing advances in biomedical applications of magnetic nanoparticles. New uses for magnetic nanoparticles in biomedical fields such as magnetic particle imaging, microfluidics applications, organelle isolation, nanovaccines, and magnetogenetics are presented in keeping with traditional applications of magnetic nanoparticles in clinical diagnostics and therapeutics. Each section of the book provides feature questions with answers available from various research showcases and literature references, together with numerous illustrations to help readers grasp key ideas. The book was written for graduate students and researchers in the fields of magnetic nanomedicine and nanobiotechnology.

About the Author
Assistant Professor Mari Takahashi carried out her Ph.D. degree at the Maenosono Lab in JAIST. Her Ph.D. research was on magnetic separation of autophagosomes by magnetic plasmonic nanoparticles. Her expertise is in chemical synthesis of heterostructured nanoparticles and their bioapplication. Currently she is engaged in several projects regarding bioapplication of nanoparticles.
The Son Le is a Ph.D. candidate at JAIST, where he is now working on the development of multifunctional magnetic plasmonic nanoparticles for studying intracellular trafficking of nanoparticles through plasmonic scattering and isolation of intact lysosomes.
Professor Shinya Maenosono leads his research group at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST). His research at JAIST has focused on two main areas of interest in the field of materials chemistry and nanotechnology. The first area involved wet chemical synthesis of semiconductor nanoparticleswith controlled size, shape, and composition for energy conversion device applications. The second area has concentrated on the synthesis and bioapplication development of monometallic and alloyed multimetallic nanoparticles.
