Modern Digital Design

Modern Digital Design covers not only all the principles of designing digital circuits but also realistic and useful applications using off-the-shelf integrated circuit devices ranging from simple gates to modern programmable devices. The book's notable features encompass: a sound top-down design approach to gate level combinational logic design; coverage of the positive (and negative) logic convention as well as direct polarity indication; full discussions of PROM, PAL, and PLA programmable device architectures; and, an in-depth presentation of combinational logic circuit design using PALASM. This volume also features: detailed coverage of synchronous sequential design of Moore and Mealy state machines, an in-depth presentation of synchronous sequential logic circuit design using PLDesigner, and a rational approach to asynchronous sequential design of fundamental and pulse mode circuits. The book includes over 100 worked-out examples and over 600 illustrations. A Student Version of PLDesigner is available with the book. Fully menu driven and easy to learn, this software will help students learn modern design techniques for logic circuits. PLDesigner introduces students to logic synthesis concepts and provides logic reduction using the sum of products and Espresso algorithms. The package consists of two IBM PC disks and requires a minimum of 512K and a hard disk.
