1732. Early or possible first edition. [iii], 468pp., 12 page table of contents for this volume, and 1 folding engraved plate (of 5). Thomas Salmon (1679-1767) was an English historical and geographical writer. 'Modern History or The Present State of All Nations' is his major work. We believe that the first volume may have appeared in 1725, and it was completed in 1739 when a new quarto edition in three volumes was published. For sale is volume 15 only of, we believe, an eventual 26 volumes. It is dated 1732, and covers the City of London and the City of Westminster. It includes an account of the water supply, manner of provisions, life and diversions, and remarks on the great trading companies in London. The book is bound in contemporary full leather boards with five thin raised bands on the spine. There is no title-label but an impression of the title is visible on the spine and the volume number is clear. The case of the book is in very good condition with some expected scuffing and a little staining to the leather. The corners are lightly bumped. The contents are tight and clean, particularly for a book of this age. As mentioned above, only 1 of the 5 listed plates is present (showing the Royal Banqueting House at Whitehall). There is no inscripiton but the reference number 'A2' has been written on the top corner of the front fixed endpaper.
