About the Book

The Modern Kumite Rule Book is the official handbook of India’s first structured martial art and combat sport—Modern Kumite. Rooted in India’s ancient warrior traditions and designed for contemporary competition, this rule book outlines the complete framework for the sport’s philosophy, rules, scoring, and administrative standards.

Developed by the Modern Kumite Federation of India (MKFI), the book presents a unified approach to combat sport with a uniquely Indian identity. It blends the timeless principles of discipline, respect, and self-mastery with the technical demands of modern martial competition.

Covering everything from athlete eligibility and bout procedures to referee signals, point systems, and event administration, this rule book is essential for martial artists, coaches, referees, tournament organizers, and institutions.

What Is Modern Kumite?

Modern Kumite is a full-contact sport inspired by Indian martial arts such as Kalaripayattu and Malla-Yuddha, and informed by global systems like Karate and Taekwondo. It emphasizes strategic combat, clean technique, ethical behavior, and inclusivity across age, gender, and ability.

Inside the Book:

• Official scoring systems and match formats

• Referee and judge guidelines

• Athlete classifications and belt divisions

• Arena layouts and equipment standards

• Event protocols and safety procedures

• Anti-doping, injury retirement, and code of conduct policies

Why This Book Matters

India has long lacked a globally recognized martial sport of its own. Modern Kumite fills that gap—providing a codified, inclusive, and culturally rooted combat sport that can be practiced nationwide and on the international stage. This book is the first step in building that vision, offering a professional standard for training, competition, and ethical conduct.
