Modern School for Mallet-Keyboard Instruments : Includes Classic Morris Goldenberg Etudes

Modern School for Mallet-Keyboard Instruments is a percussion method book featuring the classic etudes of Morris Goldenberg for players developing technique, reading ability, musicianship, and performance skill on marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, bells, and chimes. Edited by Jim Sewrey, Ben Hans, and Tom Schneller, it is especially well suited to serious students, teachers, and percussionists preparing for lessons, recitals, juries, auditions, and ensemble work.

This collection brings together scalar materials, technical studies, selected orchestral excerpts, melodic studies, and solos appropriate for study and performance. It addresses musical literacy, musicianship, performance, and technique as applied to both two-mallet and four-mallet playing, giving players a practical bridge between foundational exercises and recognizable repertoire.

Its value lies in the way it supports both disciplined practice and musical growth. Players can strengthen stroke control, interval accuracy, reading fluency, phrasing, and repertoire awareness while working through studies that feel connected to real performance goals.
