Neuware - Hugo von Ritgen (1811-1889) war Architekt, bildender K�nstler, Denkmalpfleger, Universit�tsprofessor und Kunstsammler. �berregionale Bekanntheit erlangte er durch seine fulminante Wiederherstellung der Wartburg bei Eisennach im historistischen Stil. Auch in Hessen und vor allem in der Universit�tsstadt Gie�en hat Ritgen mit seinem vielf�ltigen Wirken nachhaltig Spuren hinterlassen. Die Ausstellung im Oberhessischen Museum und der sie begleitende Katalog pr�sentieren erstmals die gesamte Bandbreite der bauk�nstlerischen Projekte Ritgens. Dazu geh�ren Restaurierungs- und Umbauarbeiten an Burgen und Schl�ssern ebenso wie Entw�rfe f�r Stadtvillen, Fabrikgeb�ude, Kirchen, Gartenh�user, Grabm�ler und M�bel. Auf der Grundlage umfangreicher Forschungen konnte ein Lebenswerk rekonstruiert werden, in dem Moderne und Mittelalter verschmelzen und das genau deshalb typisch f�r das 19. Jahrhundert ist. Den Katalogteil erg�nzen wissenschaftliche Beitr�ge, die eine kulturgeschichtliche Einordnung Ritgens und seiner Arbeit in die Geschichte der Architektenausbildung, des Historismus, der modernen Ingenieurbauweise und des Tourismus leisten.Katalog zur Ausstellung im Oberhessischen Museum Gie�en, 11.
