The book, written by John Checkley (1680-1754), aims to demonstrate the sacred offices, their distinctions, and their intended permanence in the church, ultimately identifying those who continue to execute them. In 1720 John Checkley was convicted by the General Court for upholding the doctrines of the church of England against the teachings of the New England divines.
