A Mom by Magic. This item is unavailable.A Mom by Magic

Jessica's wish for a mother for the holiday season results in some wacky, yet endearing, adventures with a mannequin mom brought alive by the powers of magic.

It's December first, and Jessica Slocum, ten, makes a wish at the wishing well in Milliman's department store. Motherless since she was two, she asks for her heart's true desire: a mother, just for the holiday season. A store mannequin becomes Amalie, a flesh-and-blood mom by the powers of magic, and a modern-day fairy tale, complete with happy ending, begins. Since Amalie knows little about being either human or a mother, the resulting episodes are humorous and endearing. Her mannequin perspective leads to some interesting and revealing comments on human foibles. In the spirit of the holiday, this very slight, sweet, lighthearted tale is spun to its serendipitous conclusion, as even Jessica's father's succumbs to the magic of the season. This family story is bound to warm young hearts. --Connie Tyrrell Burns, Mahoney Middle School, South Portland, ME
