PreSchool-K?A simple book that attempts to explain family structure to youngsters, and to reassure those who live in nontraditional situations. Each of the 23 double-page spreads addresses a question ranging from "What is an aunt?" to "Why does Grandpa have gray hair?" The coverage tends to zigzag?the first half deals with extended families, living arrangements, and heredity; emphasis then moves to animals, with sections on "Do bugs have baby brothers?" and "Why does a bird sit on its eggs?" Finally, it's back to humans?"Do all twins look alike?" and "How long does it take to grow up?" The tone is positive and conversational, emphasizing the loving and nurturing aspects of family life, sometimes to the point of overdoing it a bit. Interesting asides boxed in yellow appear occasionally. Large, full-color drawings dominate each spread, populated by a young girl and her relatives.
