Una percentuale significativa del consumo energetico � attribuibile al settore edilizio, in particolare per il riscaldamento e il raffreddamento. In linea con l'obiettivo generale di ridurre la domanda di raffreddamento nei climi tropicali, nelle Filippine, a Palawan, vicino alla citt� di Puerto Princesa, � stato realizzato un approccio radicalmente nuovo all'architettura sostenibile nell'ambito del progetto Zero Carbon Resorts (ZCR) guidato da GrAT. Questo edificio prototipo combina elementi costruttivi vernacolari e materiali autoctoni con un'architettura contemporanea e tecnologie all'avanguardia per edifici a energia zero. Nell'ambito di questo lavoro � stato effettuato un monitoraggio completo del clima esterno locale e dell'ambiente interno, suddiviso in un monitoraggio a lungo termine con particolare attenzione alla temperatura dell'aria e all'umidit� relativa e un monitoraggio a breve termine utilizzando un metodo PMV/PPD adattato, per dimostrare la funzionalit� del concetto e che il comfort termico in un cottage resort realizzato con risorse rinnovabili locali in clima tropicale pu� essere ottenuto grazie alle caratteristiche di progettazione e alla ventilazione naturale senza l'uso di condizionatori d'aria.
