Monster: An Anthology of Horror, Fantasy, and the Fear of Racism

A South Asian daughter returns to a family whose love conceals a terrible hunger. An enslaved woman sheds her skin and spends three centuries trying to become free. In Iran, a father buries his daughter after a bombing. Five days later, she comes home.

In MONSTER, writers of colour draw on folklore and cultural memory in sixteen short stories of horror and dark fantasy. Across families, lands, and generations, their characters confront the fears passed down to them and the violence carried out in ordinary life. Some find protection in powers others call monstrous. Together, these stories ask who gets called a monster-and who gets to decide.
