The Moon in the Well is a collection of 65 tales from many cultures, followed by interpretive comments, suggested uses, and true-life examples of what can happen when a nourishing story is taken to heart. Erica Meade’s musings and suggestions are intended to pique readers’ interest in story and guide them in weaving wisdom tales into their everyday dialogues.
Erica Helm Meade is a Seattle-based poet, storyteller, and psychotherapist. As a child at the feet of elder tellers in her family and neighborhood, she discovered the power story had to go straight to the heart and impart courage in troubled times. As a teenage baby-sitter and hospital volunteer she found stories to be prime elixirs of emotional well-being.
A professional storyteller since 1978, Erica uses wisdom tales from many cultures to spark insight, evoke dialogue, build group cohesion, affirm character, and inspire change. She has created storytelling programs for hospitals and residential treatment programs for "at risk" youth. She coaches teachers, environmentalists, health educators, and counselors in the art of storytelling for use in the classroom and clinic, and in home hospice programs. Erica is a frequent presenter at Antioch University, Seattle, and has taught at Esalen Institute in California. She has been the story weaver for The National Education Association and has given presentations for The Physicians for the Humanities in Medicine, The Women's Communication Centre in London, The National Storytelling Conference, The Washington State Conference on Death and Mourning, and The Washington State Conference on Storytelling as Prevention.
