This 11.25 x 8.75 inch, 164 page soft cover book is the stated second printing of this title in 1949 with the first printing issued in 1948. This book is in very good condition with only one condition issue downgrading this copy from all but fine. The tan cloth-covered boards show very little time-wear with the black titling on front panel and spine clean. The interior shows a previous owner?s inked name on the ffep and the one condition issue to mention - - shows on the first few pages of the text block where someone in the past has possibly spilled some liquid onto the top edge and corner and this has left a modest light brown stain that shows somewhat to the top edge and corner of the text block. This is not a dark stain and does not obscure any printing or pictures. This title has long been noted as one of the best accounts of the gold mining history in California - - with several authors writing accounts of areas throughout the Mother Lode and with extensive information and black-and-white photographs providing a very good overview of the gold mining experience. The book features maps and charts to supplement the text. 164 pages.
