Mount Rainier: The Story Behind the Scenery

Mount Rainier reaches above the 14,000 foot mark as the creator of multiple glaciers that flow in all directions. And yet, the gentle forests below serve as habitat for all creatures, even visitors who come to enjoy its splendor.

Mount Rainer National Park, located in southwestern Washington, was established in 1899 to preserve the greatest single-peak glacial system in the contiguous United States.

Ray "Skip" Snow, career employee of the National Park Service, graduated from Ohio's Miami University with degrees in biological and environmental sciences. The years that Skip lived and worked in Mount Rainier National Park gave him a special appreciation of the admiration for the wonders of Mount Rainier and the Pacific Northwest.
